Scientists have long recognized the importance of adequate hydration for
good health.
The human body can go without food and survive for weeks, but take away
water, and death can come in a few days.
Yet, while most of us realize the importance of water, few of us seem to be
reaping the benefits of drinking good healthy water. Even with the increasing
popularity of bottled water,
people continue to display signs and symptoms of dehydration such as dry skin,
decreased energy, poor elimination, and increased susceptibility to disease.
Clearly, something elemental is missing in the water we drink.
Anyone of us who has ever taken a sip of cool, clear, mountain spring water direct from
its source can readily recall the refreshing and invigorating experience.
It's quite the contrast to choking down a glass of city tap water or
gulping down a bottle of packaged water.
It is no surprise then that these areas of the world have produced the longest living
cultures. The five places in the world with the greatest proportion of 100-year-old
people are
- the Vilcabambas in Ecuador,
- the Soviet Caucasus,
- the Hunzas of Pakistan,
- the Tibetans in northwest China, and
- the Titicacas in the Peruvian Andes.
According to Dr. Joel Wallach and Dr. Ma Lan,
authors of Rare Earths Forbidden Cures, the common
denominators of these five long-lived cultures include:
- The communities are found at elevations ranging from 8,500 feet to
14,000 feet in sheltered mountain valleys.
- The annual precipitation is less than 2 inches.
- Their water source for drinking and irrigation comes from glacial melt
and it known universally as "Glacial Milk" because the highly mineralized
water is opaque and whitish in color like milk.
- There is no heavy industry to pollute air, water or food.
- Only natural fertilizer (manure, plant debris and "Glacial Milk") is employed.
- Western allopathic medicine was not historically available to these cultures.
Not only do the people in these cultures—located in the Hunza Districts of
Pakistan, Shin-Chan areas of China, the Caucasus in Azerbaijan, and in the
Andes Mountains—live longer, but they have less health problems as well.
The Hunza people, for example, inhabit
several high-altitude mountain valleys located in northern Pakistan. Many Hunza
claim to be 150 years old, and many others are documented centenarians.
They very rarely suffer the diseases the rest of us know so well. Scientists
have often wondered what makes them so long-lived, also so healthy.
The mountain water that flows into Hunza villages comes from glaciers.
Structured hexagonally, it is filled with
mineral solutes, and tests out highly alkaline.
Researchers believe that these waters are very pure and have a negative
Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) caused by either intimate contact with
certain native volcanic materials/minerals or by cascading over certain
igneous rocks.
It is believed that water ionizers are able to produce the same effect.
Ionized water is simply water containing molecules which have gained or lost an electron.
Water that has been ionized becomes either
alkaline or acidic, meaning that the pH has been adjusted up or down.
All water and all aqueous solutions contain both H+ and OH ions. If the
quantity of H+ exceeds that of the OH, the water
is said to be acidic. If there are more OH ions than H+, the water is
alkaline. Pure water, which contains equal numbers of
both ions, is said to be neutral.
Using the pH scale of 0 - 14, water with a pH of 8 has 100 times as many OH ions than H+ ions
(that is, [H+] = 10–8, [OH] = 10–6.)
Dr. Hidemitsu Hayashi is a leading authority on the benefits of alkaline, ionized water.

Whether a water is acidic or alkaline, it will always contain equal numbers of positive and negative electric charges.
Since alkaline water contains an excess of OH
ions, it must also contain some other kind of positive ion in addition to
H
+ in order to equalize the opposite charges. This extra positive ion is almost always a metal ion such as
sodium, calcium or magnesium. Similarly, an acidic water must always contain negative ions in addition to OH
; the most
common of these is bicarbonate HCO
3
.
Ionized water is created through a process of electrolysis—the breakdown of a substance by passing an electric
current through it.
Water is ionized by running the water over positive and negative electrodes. This is accomplished by
placing a pair of oppositely-charged electrodes (usually of platinum or some other unreactive metal) in the solution.
"It is true that 'pure' or distilled water can not be ionized. If you
were to try to 'split' distilled water, it would not work. Tap or spring
water, however, has dissolved minerals in it.
It's the minerals in the water; primarily calcium, potassium and magnesium
that allow water to be 'split' by an electric current into
alkaline, 'electron-rich' (i.e., containing negatively charged ions that
can engage in chemical reactions to provide electrons to positively
charged free radicals) and acid, 'electron-deficient' components.
Individuals who say it is not possible to split tap or spring water
are misinformed."

The water is then separated into alkaline and acidic water as it passes through membranes.
Positive ions that find themselves close to the negative electrode will acquire electrons, and negative ions near the
positive electrode will lose electrons.
Electrolysis accomplishes this separation by repelling the water
now that it has been "charged" into positive and negative ions.
In the case of pure water, the reactions are as follows:
At the negative electrode:
2 H+ + 2e– H2
... but since the H+ ions come from water, the overall reaction is
2 H2O + 2e → H2 + 2 OH
At the positive electrode:
4 OH 4e + 2 H2O + O2
... but since the OH ions come from water, the overall reaction is
2 H2O → 4e- + O2 + 4H+
Note that the consumption of H+ ions at the negative electrode leaves an excess of OH ions in the
vicinity of this electrode, making the water in this region alkaline.
Similarly, the consumption of OH ions at the positive electrode makes the
water near this electrode acidic. If the regions near the
two electrodes are surrounded by a semi-permeable barrier that inhibits
diffusion of these ions into the bulk of the water, excess ions build up.
With chemically pure water, the acidity or
alkalinity would be undetectable. Eventually the H+ and OH ions find
each other and recombine:
H+ + OH → H2O
... so the net reaction for the electrolysis of chemically pure water is simply
the production of gaseous hydrogen and oxygen:
2 H2O → 2 H2 + O2
... leaving the pH of the water at 7.0, just as it was before electrolysis.
However, chemically pure water does not exist in nature. Chemically
pure H20 is not pure water, but an artificially created matter.
It does not have any ions and cannot carry any electricity. But such water
does not happen anywhere outside the chemistry science lab. Even when you
make chemically pure water, it soon absorbs
atmospheric gaseous states and its pH scale goes slightly acidic.
High end water ionizers will use a saline solution to make the water more conductive,
thus producing both very alkaline water and very acidic water.
Electrolysis with this solution liberates hydrogen gas and hydroxide ions at the cathode, producing a superior
alkaline water. At the anode, a superior acidic water is produced.
There are three main benefits to drinking ionized water.
First and foremost, ionized water has a negative
Oxidation Reduction Potential and therefore is a powerful antioxidant.
Antioxidants neutralize free radicals. Since free radical damage causes disease and makes your
body age, ionized water is anti-disease, anti-aging, and anti-cancer. Moreover, ionized water is a liquid antioxidant,
so it is easily absorbed into the body. This easy absorption makes it much more effective
and a powerful antioxidant.
Ionized water is an antioxidant in the form of hydroxyl ions, meaning it is an oxygen molecule
with an extra electron. A free radical is an oxygen molecule that is missing one electron.
Once the hydroxyl ion donates its extra electrons to the free radical, you are left
with lots of oxygen. Because ionized water provides your body with lots of
oxygen, it gives you energy. This is one of the most incredible aspects of
ionized water!
Secondly, ionized water balances body pH because
it is very alkaline. The western diet is often extremely acidic.
Soft drinks, fast foods, and processed foods deposit acid waste in your body.
Over time, these acid wastes
build up and create an ideal environment for all kinds of diseases to thrive.
Look at any cancer patient, for instance. Their bodies are invariably acidic.
Their blood pH may be alkaline, but only because their bodies have robbed their
bones and organs of calcium and magnesium to maintain that blood pH.
This is, of course, true even with children. Children who are chronic
soft drink consumers put themselves in grave danger by allowing
their bodies to build up acid waste. Many end up with serious diseases at a
very young age. By drinking alkaline water, you help your body maintain an environment
that is not conducive to disease. Ionized water, because of its alkaline
properties, will flush acid waste from your body
Your body may accomplish this over an extended time, depending
on how acidic your body is.
Thirdly, ionized water has a different molecular cluster size.
The water cluster in ionized water contains
only five to six water molecules instead of the ten to thirteen that
conventional water molecule clusters have. The water clusters have also changed from an irregular
shape to a hexagonal regular shape. This smaller or "reduced" water is sometimes called
"microclustered water" and much more hydrating than
conventional water and is extremely detoxifying.
As mentioned above, microclustered water is water having small clusters of water molecules in
a hexagonal shape. Small molecule clusters of water have high energy and move quickly,
while also accelerating metabolism and excretion of waste material.
During the ionization process, water undergoes a profound
change. From ordinary H2O it becomes OH
. This means it becomes a
powerful antioxidant formula at an atomic level. It also means that
it changes the way its molecules group together. Instead of "clumping" in
large groups of ten to thirteen molecules, it gathers in much smaller groups about
half the size. This is why people refer to the experience of drinking
from water ionizers as effortless, or "silken."
According to Dr. Hayashi of the Japanese Water Institute, this change
of molecular form also means that ionized water gains the ability to
penetrate tissue and cell walls far more easily.
This is why many people experience detoxification
effects in the first few weeks of drinking the water, as it infiltrates
areas that have not been reachable with ordinary H2O.
Water is H2O, two hydrogen atoms for each oxygen atom. Neutral water
has an equal number of OH
ions (hydroxyl ions) and H+ ions (hydrogen ions),
maintaining the 2 to 1 ratio of hydrogen and oxygen atoms.
Alkaline water is water with more OH
ions than H+ ions. This water
has more oxygen atoms compared to the 2 to 1 ratio of hydrogen to
oxygen atom of regular water.
H + H + O = regular water (H2O)
During ionization, the atoms recombine as in the following formula:
(H + H + O) + (H + H + O) = (H + H) and (OH + OH)
(OH + OH) = H2O + O (water plus extra oxygen!)
The resulting OH ions combine to create negatively charged alkaline
water with extra oxygen that we drink. The resulting HH ions are
positively charged and acidic that we use externally.
Through recent technical advances in the study of water, biochemists have now identified
one of the primary elements that account for why some natural spring waters so
thoroughly satiate the body. That element is the “structure” or organization
of water molecules.
Drinking structured water, also known as hexagonal water, can provide a
number of benefits for the body. What’s more, health-conscious individuals
can now fully satiate their bodies even though they live nowhere near a
naturally-occurring source.
1. More thorough hydration
Most tap water and bottled water is composed of large water conglomerates. The random
organization of this water makes it difficult to move freely into the cells.
On the other hand, the unique organization of hexagonal water enables rapid penetration
within the cells of the body. In a study entitled, Microclustered Water and Hydration,
Dr. Z.Y. Wang and his collaborators showed that a hexagonal water product
was 13.4 times more effective at hydration than distilled water.
Dr. James Kholos is a Southern California-based chiropractor and naturopath who is
conducting a hydration study using male and female athletes over the age of 40.
The purpose of the study is to show how increased water absorption within the tissues
and cells of the body can foster changes in physiological function. "Early evidence
from these studies indicates that hexagonal water increases the elasticity of the
arterial walls," stated Dr. Kholos. Arterial walls stiffen as a
result of dehydration and can predispose the body to hypertension; whereas normal,
well-hydrated arteries have more elastic properties.
2. Better nutrient absorption
Hexagonal water easily makes its way into intracellular spaces, thus helping nutrients
to enter the cell. "The hydrogen bonding in hexagonal water makes minerals more
available to the body," adds Dr. Kholos.
3. More complete detoxification
Just as hexagonal water can easily penetrate cell membranes, it can quickly exit
the cells. Because it enhances waste removal, hexagonal water helps flush toxins and
other waste products (such as lactic acid) so that they can be excreted from the body.
The more hexagonal water, the faster the cleansing process.
The Bioelectrical Body Composition Analyzer is considered one of the most
accurate ways of measuring cell water turnover. When individuals drank eight ounces of
regular filtered water, the device showed water movement at the cellular level in
45-60 minutes. But when individuals drank eight ounces of hexagonal water,
movement could be demonstrated in as few as 10-15 minutes.
4. Greater metabolic efficiency

"Most people eat not because they are hungry, but because
their bodies are dehydrated. Instead of having a glucose/hypoglycemic
mechanism, you have a dehydration mechanism that drives weight gain. Satiate the thirst,
and it should beneficially effect the amount of fat deposition in the adipose layer as
well as sugar retention in the bloodstream."

Research shows that the amount of energy (measured in calories) that hexagonal
water can store and transfer is greater than that of regular water.
By energizing a cell's mitochondria, for example, more work can be performed with the
same amount of nutrients. Hexagonal water has also produced lower blood sugar levels in just four weeks.
According to Dr. Kholos, hexagonal water is also useful in correcting
weight imbalances.
How long does ionized water stay ionized?
When removed from its natural environment hexagonal water quickly reverts to the
same random organization characteristic of normal water.
The shelf life of hexagonal water from a spring might be two days—at best.
With ionized water, the antioxidant (hydroxyl ions) will last approximately eighteen to twenty-four hours.
The higher pH (alkaline properties) will last approximately one to two weeks.
The smaller molecule cluster size will last
approximately one to three months.
Does ionized water have any negative effects?
Ionized water has absolutely no negative effects, as long as it is used properly.
Only the alkaline water should be consumed.
Never drink the acidic water. There has never seen a single negative
effect from ionized water, either alkaline or acidic, as long as it is has been used properly.
What can I expect from using ionized water?
With regular use of strong ionized water, blood oxygen levels will rise and stamina and
endurance will increase. The ionized water provides the muscles tissue and organs with
high amounts of oxygen which the human body often lacks because of inadequate diets.
Does ionized water have any effect upon cancer?
Professor Won H. Kim in his book Water of Life: A Cure for Our Body,
states that cancer cells cannot grow in microclustered water. They only grow
in loosely structured water. In his book he refers to the the work of
Professor Shirahata who shows that electrolytic reduced water has the
power to suppress cancer cell proliferation and metastasis.

"Is it possible to have a panacea, a cure all? There are several requirements to be
declared real: power to purify blood, ability to eliminate active oxygen (origin of all
diseases) and capacity to strengthen the immune system in its job of fighting against
external enemies. We can safely assume efficacies regardless of the name of the
diseases being dealt with.
"In the case of mineral alkaline reduced water the following are observable:
purification of acidified blood, increased immune function, special superiority to
reduce active oxygen (free radicals) and good energy harmonising with our body.
It apparently fulfils all the requirements of both good water and panacea."
